Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment for restoring volume, smoothing wrinkles, and enhancing facial features. At Medovate Dermatology, we offer a variety of dermal filler treatments to help rejuvenate your skin. To make sure you can enjoy the best results from your filler treatment, we want to help you know how to take proper care of your skin afterward. Here are our tips on skin care after dermal filler injections.
1. Avoid Touching the Treated Area
Dermal fillers are administered by injection. Injections leave a tiny hole in the skin, which easily heals over without a scar. However, for the first 4 to 6 hours after treatment, you should avoid contact with the injection site. Do not touch or rub the treated area, as this can introduce bacteria and cause an infection or inflammation.
2. Apply a Cold Compress
You may experience some temporary swelling or redness after the procedure. Cold pressure can help to reduce the swelling and inflammation. Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treated area for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. To keep the skin from becoming irritated or introducing bacteria, be sure to use a sanitized, clean cloth for at least the first 6 hours or so after treatment.
3. Avoid Strenuous Exercise for 24 Hours
Strenuous exercise increases blood flow and can cause the treated area to swell. It also causes the body to perspire, which can irritate the treated skin. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
4. Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is one of the best things you can do for your skin health, especially after receiving injectable fillers. This helps to keep your skin hydrated and promote healing. Aim for at least eight full glasses of water a day.
5. Avoid Sun Exposure for At Least 24 Hours
Direct sunlight can irritate the skin after dermal fillers, so it is best to avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours. If you must go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to the treated area.
6. Use Gentle Skin Care Products
Harsh skin care products, such as retinoids and exfoliants, should be avoided for at least 24 hours after treatment. In the meantime, continue to use gentle cleansers and moisturizers to keep your skin clean, hydrated, and healthy.
7. Follow Up with Your Dermatologist
We want to be there for you after your treatment. Be sure to schedule and attend follow-up appointments so that we can assess your results and provide any additional personalized recommendations to help you care for your skin.
Remember that taking care of your skin after dermal filler injections is essential for achieving the best possible results. Avoid touching the treated area, apply cold as needed, avoid strenuous exercise, stay hydrated, minimize sun exposure, use gentle skincare products, and follow up with your dermatologist. These tips can help ensure a smooth and successful experience with your dermal filler injections.
