Treatment

Tumescent liposuction is a surgical procedure. First, the target area is injected with a tumescent liquid that causes it to become swollen and firm. The tumescent liquid also temporarily shrinks the blood vessels in the treatment area, which leads to significantly lower bleeding, bruising, swelling, and discomfort during and after the procedure. Local anesthetic in the tumescent solution will help you remain comfortable. Next, a small incision is made in the skin, and a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) is inserted through the incision into the fatty tissue. Using back and forth movements with the cannula, fat cells are loosened and sucked up through the tube using vacuum technology. Through this process, the fat cells are instantly and permanently removed from the body.

Recovery and Results

A compression garment should be worn to minimize discomfort and swelling and to help the treated area heal. After the local anesthetic has worn off, any localized discomfort can usually be maintained with over-the-counter pain relievers. Walking is encouraged immediately afterward to enhance healing. It is best to avoid returning to work or strenuous exercise for several days. As the swelling subsides, the results will become more visible. The treated area should soon appear noticeably slimmer and smoother.
