Treatment Options
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel works by applying a custom combination of chemicals directly to the skin. The treatment removes the damaged and aging outer skin layers to reveal a more youthful and even skin tone. This rejuvenating procedure is completely customizable and can correct a number of skin problems.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are cosmetic injectables that minimize wrinkles in the forehead, brow, and eye area. When injected, these substances block nerve impulses so that the tiny muscle contractions triggered by facial expressions do not cause wrinkles to appear. This helps the forehead and brow area appear smooth and youthful rather than tired, angry, and “old”. Treatment is quick and has no downtime. Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® yield results that last for a few months before repeat treatments are recommended.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers come in a variety of formulas, all of which rejuvenate the skin by enhancing skin volume and filling in wrinkles in the mid to lower face. The results are achieved through injecting the filler directly into the target area. Treatment is quick and has no downtime. Results are temporary and may last from several months up to 2 years; maintenance treatments are often recommended to maintain ideal results. Popular dermal fillers include JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, RADIESSE®, Bellafill®, and Sculptra® Aesthetic.
Medications
Various topical or oral medications can also be prescribed to address skin problems. Skin creams and gels may help to correct fine lines and wrinkles and promote collagen formation for firmer skin.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion uses tiny crystal particles to exfoliate damaged surface skin. The treatment removes the surface skin so that the healthier, newer skin beneath is revealed. It is an excellent treatment option for individuals who are not candidates for other skin rejuvenation procedures. Microdermabrasion has no downtime and can be administered as a series of treatments spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart. Initially, 5 to 10 treatments may be recommended, after which ongoing maintenance treatments can be performed as needed to prolong results.
Laser Treatments
Laser treatments can address a wide range of skin problems. Using laser energy, treatment can remove damaged skin and uncover healthy and smooth skin layers. Laser therapy also promotes natural skin tightening, firming, and collagen formation so that the results continue to improve over time. Treatment requires only a topical anesthetic and is performed in office in under 30 minutes, with little to no downtime. Multiple treatment sessions and occasional touch-up treatments may be recommended, depending on your needs and desires. Because treatment is highly customizable, risks and complications are rare.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
PDT uses a photosensitizing drug and an activating light source to rejuvenate the skin. A brief period of incubation followed by light activation can yield smoother and more evenly toned skin. Patients may need 1-2 days of recovery before returning to work. A total of 5 initial treatments spaced 2 to 5 weeks apart may be recommended, with the option for continuing maintenance treatments afterward.
